Gainward 8800GT 1024MB Golden SampleThe 8800GT has been out long enough for manufacturers to get their modified versions out. Gainward has decided to double the memory on their Bliss 8800 GT 1024 Golden Sample card and also change the nVidia's reference cooler to a new one. Later on we'll see how the increased memory size affects the performance compared to cards with less memory, but now lets take a closer look at the card in question. |
Golden Sample
The card came in a box larger than most motherboard boxes and the card was very well packed. Gainward uses the same box for all the 8800GT-series cards, and there's only a sticker telling there's something special in the card inside this particular box. Altogether the box follows the standard pretty well with details printed clearly on it.

Due to the special cooler used by Gainward the card looks entirely different from the other G92-cards I've seen. The cooler takes the slot under the graphic card, but unlike the reference cooler this one doesn't blow hot air out of the case. Closer look shows that the fans is placed in the middle of the cooler, hidden under the fins of the heatsink.

The bundle contains a whole bunch of adapters:
- Molex - PCI-e power adapter
- DVI - D-Sub adapter
- DVI - HDMI adapter
- SPDIF-cable for audio
- Video output-cable with component, composite and s-video connections
It's good to see the bundle containing a DVI-HDMI adapter as the HDMI-connection is getting more popular all the time. The black cable with orange RCA-connector in one end is meant to be used with HDMI cables to get the digital audio from an external sound card. This method is nice as, unlike with the first HDMI-card MSI 7600GT Diamond we reviewed earlier, connecting the cable doesn't require opening the case.

Besides all the adapters, the bundle also contains a short installation manual, a driver CD, Cyberlink PowerDVD6 and Tomb Raider Anniversary game.
Most likely everyone already has a DVD-player software as they are usually bundled with the DVD-drive, but on the other hand some may still need it. The Tomb Raider game is a re-issue of the original game launched in the 90's.
