Size comparison

Being 23 cm long, the 8800GT 1024MB card is exactly as long as the 8800GTS. Though the cards are short enough to fit into most cases, it's worth noticing that the extra power connector is located in the end of the card and thus the connector and the cable add to the total lenght of the card.
Benchmarks
After my last GFX card review the test bench has been updated to better match current days mid-range gaming rig. The current specs for the test rig are:

Software

Even though this comes pretty close to the setup used in our previous XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition review, there are still differences and thus the results can't be directly compared to each other.
3DMark06

While waiting for the next 3dmark to be launched, the 06 is still the latest out there. The test was ran using two settings: the defauls 1280x1024 resolution and settings and then with high 1920x1200 and 8x AA. At stock clockspeeds the performance of the cards is surprisingly even with the GTS being only 4% faster. At higher resolution and 8x AA the difference is still 3% in favor of the GTS.
Company of Heroes

Company of Heroes was first launched in 2006, but has since got a DirectX 10 facelift and can still bring graphic cards to their knees. The built-in performance test, while may not represent true in-game performance, is still synthetical and exactly the same from time to another and thus was used. The tests were ran using both DX10 and "high" (DX9) settings. On DX9 the game was well playable on 1920x1200 resolution and all settings maxed, but on DX10 even these cards sturggled on max settings and so the resolution was lowered and AA turned off.
World in Conflict

World in Conflict was also tested on the most popular widescreen resolutions. World in Conflict uses DirectX10 on high and very high graphic details, so both tests used DX10. Even though World in Conflict is a real time strategy game and doesn't necessarily need high frame rates, the results at 1920x1200 start to be off the comfort zone. At 1680x1050 resolution seen on 20" and 22" screens both cards can run the game smoothly. It's interesting to see that on both resolution and in both average and minimum the GTS is exactly 2 frames per second faster.
Half Life Episode 2

The Episode 2 that was launched last year in the Orange Box isn't really the heaviest of FPS-games, but at 1920x1200 resolution and with all image quality settings maxed out, it still managed to produce some comparable results. The test was done using Fraps and playing the same scene through a couple of times. Again the GTS pulls the victory with a margin of three FPS on the average and four on minimum.
