To add value to their sticks A-data is distributing some software via their website to consumers that have bought their products. With S805 you can download 60 day trial to Norton Antivirus and a full copy of the UFDtoGO. UFDtoGo is basically portable software that can do many kinds of things you would like to see your USB-drive do.

Features:
  • 128bit AES encryption
  • SafeLogin website password manager for Internet Explorer
  • PC-Lock - Screensaver Lock
  • Favorites/Bookmarks Sync for IE & Firefox
  • Data Compression
  • No trace browsing with IE & FF
  • Desktop, Folders and My Documents synchronization
  • Sync All / Auto Sync
  • Portable Microsoft Outlook Express/Windows mail
  • USB Drive lost & found

I like the UFDtoGO, it's simple to use and very handy. What I would have liked to see would have been also portable Firefox and Thunderbird. To highlight a few features I'd like to point out the encryption, PC-Lock and Lost & Found. Encryption is self-explanatory, it crypts all your sensitive material in the stick and the material cannot be accessed without the right password.

PC-Lock is literally a lock that closes the PC. If you activate the PC-Lock and take the drive from the USB-port, the computer locks down. The only way it can be opened again is to put the drive back to the USB-port or rebooting the computer. This is very similar to the Windows session lock, but PC-lock is safer, since the only way it can be turned off is to rob the memory stick from the owner's pocket.

Lost & Found is also a cool feature. The owner of the stick inputs his personal information to it and if the stick is lost, the founder can read the details and return the S805 back to its owner. This would have been handy in the few occasions I've left my Kingston to the class and tried to find out its whereabouts for the next few days. The personal details are saved to the stick in a html-file, and it can be accessed, even if the stick is encrypted.

The other features are mostly all kinds of synchronizations. UFDtoGO can sync your Outlook e-mails, contacts etc. The same thing goes for some folders like My Documents. Also browser bookmarks are synced.

Conclusion

    Editor's Choice Award!

So, what have we been able to say about this product? It's fast, durable, stylish and it comes with great managing software. The design is overall very good and I'm not surprised at all that the S805 has gotten an honorable mention from the Reddot Design Awards. After testing the A-data's product I've become certain that the Kingston DataTraveler I use will be replaced by this stick. I can't think of anything bad to say about it, so the S805 is a clear editor's choice!
