PhotoFinder Mini

The actual GPS-module is the part that you need to carry around with you in order to gather the GPS-data. It's a small thing and with its weight around 30 grams should be easy enough keep you at all times. The housing is made from partly transcluent plastic and is by no means rugged, but that doesn't really matter. In use it doesn't need to be connected to the camera, so you can simply turn it on and then put it in the camera bag with other fragile equipment or carry it in your pocket.

The only button in the unit is the power button. Beside these there are three leds showing memory activity, GPS activity and battery status. On the bottom, under a rubber cover, there are a mini-USB connector and a memory slot for a micro MMC-card. The choice of memory card is a bit unfortunate as micro-SD cards would be more readily available and cheaper. The logger comes with a 128 MB card which is enough to store the whereabouts for about 16 hours.

The docking station measures 84 x 93 x 51 mm and being a due to its light weight is easily portable. This dock features total of three USB-connections: one for the GPS logger, one for computer connection and one only for power when powered via the supplied transformer. There's also a small LCD display, four buttons and two memory card slots for multiple different card types.

On the bottom there are four soft feet that keep the unit in place and also there's room for the PC-connection USB-cable. This is a clever little feature that makes sure that you never forget the needed cable. Also I like the use of USB-connections everywhere, this makes sure that even if you somehow managed to forget the power supply and the USB-mini-USB cable, you would still be likely to find such a common cable from somewhere. Compared to a propietary power connector this is so much more convenient.
