DFI Infinity 875

I like the look of Infinity 875. Crimson red PCB and white/blue/black connectors are quite appealing. Unlike many other motherboard manufacturers DFI motherboards doesn't have for example common PCB colour or gold plated I/O panel or something like that. Infinity motherboards PCB's are red, LanParty series have their black PCB's and so on. Some people think that this is a bad thing and DFI should use same colour in all their products. I somewhat disagree since this is actually very easy way to separate series from another. Just look for red you get nice Infinity motherboard (or accidentally for example MSI 875P Neo).

DFI has definitely succeeded this time. I have tried to find design failures and bad things on this motherboard but I have failed. Layout had to be one of the best if not the best of all socket 478 motherboards. There is usually too little space between AGP and memory slots, badly located power circuitry or something like that. Infinity 875 doesn't have such weaknesses. Let's however look a bit closer what makes this motherboard so marvellous.

Connectors

Connectors

At the lower part of the motherboard there is IDE RAID connectors and floppy disk connector. You can also see two SATA connectors and blue CMOS clear jumper. Every connector seems to be in nice place and easily reachable.

Heatsink

Passive heat sink on northbridge is a good choice. Two point fastening mechanism isn't as tight as four point, but it is enough to hold heatsink very firmly. There is also quite much space between socket 478 and AGP slot. It is still possible that your new monster cooler doesn't fit but that is always the problem. Coolers seems to grow bigger and bigger every day (I wonder what they are feeding to them).

EZ touch

EZ touch switches are very nice to have. Especially if you have to use motherboard without case it is actually quite important to have these switches. Then there are connectors for power and HDD LEDs and also for reset and power switches. They are not colour coded, which isn't so marvellous. Gigabyte and Epox already use colour-coded connectors.

Power circuitry

Power circuitry

Three-phased power circuitry is controlled by ISL6556B and it has nine 6.3V 2200uF M and four 16V 1500uF KGZ capacitors. Low quality capacitors have been problem to many manufacturers in the past so I trust that DFI has chosen high quality and capacity capacitors to avoid those problems.

ATX and 12V power connectors are located nicely. Especially I like that because power circuitry is located at the top of the motherboard, 12V power cable is now in very good place, which further reduces cable mess.
