"Adding or subratcting just a few grams can change the gaming experience substantially" says the marketing material. Personally, I do a lot of gaming, graphics work and just regular copy&pasting with my mouse. Adding or substracting weight of the mouse by a few grams just doesn't make any substantial difference to my usage. Sure, you will notice the weight difference for a moment but in minutes you are used to the changed weight and continue to use the mouse as you were using it with the previous weight.
This comes down to personal preference and I'm sure that some people are more sensitive to these weight changes than others. But in the end, it doesn't hurt to have this "system" built-in. Use it if you like but if you don't, the mouse will continue to serve you as usual.
Weight cartridge is spring-loaded and it can be ejected simply by pushing it gently towards the mouse and releasing. One can load up to 28 grams of extra weight inside. There are four 4 gram weights and four 7 gram pieces to be mixed together. As all of the metal weights come so close to one other inside the mouse, one doesn't get the best possible tuning of the weight distribution.
Size comparison
This size-by-side shot clearly shows how short the G9 is. It seems more like a notebook mouse than a pure breed gaming mouse. For some reason both Habu and G7 seem old and outdated eventhough they are very recent models. After using the G9 for a while, it feels really odd to go back to these larger ones. I believe Logitech is after something sweet with the design and perhaps we will be seeing something similar from other manufacturers too.
