World Edition II

Like the name suggests, the glossy white unit resembles a book. The front panel is very stylish and only features a white led bar indicating the activity.

Unlike the front- and side panels, the whole rear panel is ventilated in order to keep the drives cool. In the middle there's a panel with all the necessary connectors and buttons. Starting from the top there's the power button, USB-connection for external storage, Gblan-connector, a hole for the tiny reset button and at the very bottom the DC-plug for the power supply.

The hard drives inside are less surprisingly made by Western Digital and of the Green Power line. These should keep the power consumption and heat output low, and indeed there's no cooling fan on the case. The drives slide out through the hatch on the roof and are easy to replace if one happens to break down.

As brains for the unit Western Digital opted to use Oxford Semiconductor's OXE810DSE Gigabit Ethernet to dual SATA controller. The same chip can be found from many similar products from other manufacturers like Thecus and IoMega.
