Installation

Also the installation is identical with the earlier model. The first step is to get the mounting brackets in place, on Intel-platform this means using a separate back-plate, while the AMD-brackets mount directly to the stock back support plate.

After those are in place it's time to get the cooler itself in place. This is where the long hex socket screw driver comes handy, as the spring-loaded mounting screws are hidden far underneath the cooler. Now this part of the installation seemed unnecessarily tricky, the improvements that I could think of are holes through the heat sink (á la Noctua NH-C14) to give free access to the screws, or use of larger thumb screws so they could be tightened by hand.

And finally the cooler is in place. At 140,5 mm tall you could fit some smaller tower-coolers in the same space, but atleast the design gives slightly better clearance for the memories than the largest tower coolers. Really the main advantage of the top-down airflow is when there's a cooling hole in the side panel of the case and when the VRM-components otherwise overheat.
