Tests

In the tests Q-Tec 756C USB 2.0 CD/RW Case 5.25" Alu turned out to be a very appropriate product in both performance and usability. Installing and using the device was very simple and problems weren't noticed even in long-term use. For only minor problems should be mentioned the loud noise of the 40 millimeter fan and the amplified sound beacause of the production materials. On the other hand taking care of proper ventilation of the case is almost necessary especially to ensure the good condition of the hard disk.

Performance and usage of the case were estimated by using Liteon DVD-drive and extremely silent 20GB 5400rpm Seagate U Series 5 hard disk. The actual performance benchmarks were made by hard disk mentioned before for better and more accurate results.

Performance benchmarks were made by using HD Tach 2.70 by Simpli Software and Sisoft Sandra 2004 by SiSoftware under Windows XP Professional operating system.

HD Tach IDE

HD Tach USB

A picture tells more than a thousand words. External Hard disk loses slightly to its internal brother. The performance gap between the disks is about 40 percents and in cached read 55 percents.

Random access times are almost the same with internal and external drives. A slight 0.5ms advantage for internal one.

SiSoft Sandra IDE

SiSoft Sandra USB

Benchmark results given by Sisoft Sandra are almost identical compared with ones given by HD Tach. For only expection should be mentioned random access time, which was 9ms for whole testing session.

Conclusion

756C USB 2.0 CD/RW Case 5.25" Alu

Pros
  • Looks
  • Performance
  • Easy to use

  • Cons
  • Noisy
  • No power cord included
  • An external mass storage case is almost a must for people who are planning to extend their storage capacity, respect mobility and easy usage. Mass storage case is brilliant help for backuping important data and extending very limited storage capacity of i.e laptops. Most mass storage cases works fine with every system that have the necessary connectors and they are really easy to use. At this moment almost every system equipped with USB 1.x or 2.0 interfaces and Windows, Linux or Unix operating systems are officially supporting these mobile storages cases.

Q-Tec 756C USB 2.0 CD/RW Case 5.25" Alu is in all a very good product. Magnificient appearance combined with reasonable performance and easy of use makes it a worthy competitor for other mass storage cases on the market. Only a missing power cord and quite a noisy case fan reduces its superb overall grade.
