Off the box the shape sure is the same, but other than that the looks are nothing alike. The Fortress 2 is, just like the original one, wrapped in uni-frame, which in this case means that the front panel, bottom and rear are made of one piece. Other than that it's still steel and plastic, but the difference is hard to tell without actually touching the case. There's also a model without window available, as well as an aluminum-colored version, but our sample came with the optional side window.
While the Raven-series is more eye-catching gamers cases, the Fortress 2 follows the clean and subtle theme seen in the TJ-series of cases. The new layout of the Raven was proven good in our earlier review, so it makes sense to also use the same frame to make another case model with a different theme. The theme this time is extremely plain with only the five 5,25" drive bays and Silverstone badge visible on the front panel.
Moving to the roof things are still kept very plain. While the design here is the same as in Raven, things have been made very tidy, no extra shapes whatsoever. The front panel connections feature two USB's and the audio plugs and there's also a plastic hatch that slides to cover the connectors when not needed.
With the cover pulled off, one can see the rear- or roof panel. This time around there are only seven PCI-card slots, but that shouldn't really make much of a difference. Other than that it's the exact same layout, featuring also the handy two-step fan controllers. Also not that this time around the "cable organizer" at the rear is part of the 4,5 mm thick aluminum uni-frame and can easily take the weight of the case. So now there's also the handle I was missing from Raven.
