Ulti-mat

Size comparision
I happened to have couple of different sized pads to be used as size comparision. As you can see the Ulti-mat is fairly large mousepad. And when you are a gamer, size does matter. Sure you can learn to play with a smaller mousepad but then you have to rise the ratio of cursor movement compared to the physical mouse movement and thats where you loose accuracy. With larger pad you can use larger mouse movements and keep the accuracy in its maximum.

Foam base
Whole base of the Ulti-mat is covered with soft plastic foam. It really makes the pad stick to the table top and because the whole base is covered with this stuff, small amounts of dust will not make it slip across the table as is happens with mousepads that have just tiny rubber feet.
Skates

Skates

Installed
Mouse skates will decrease friction between the mouse feet and the mousepad. And they work with many other hard surfaces in addition to Ulti-mat's teflon surface. That is also why you can buy them separately. Just use scissors and cut properly sized pieces for your mouse. As the material is self adhesive, just peel off the other half and stick them on.
Durability

After 1 year of HC gaming
I've owned this particular Ulti-mat for a year now and this is a close up of its surface. As this is angled close up, the scratches look pretty mean but they can't be felt when you run your fingers on top of them. Small dirt, zippers on your shirt sleeves etc. will eventually scratch the surface but when used with mouse skates, Ulti-mat should last for many years. Most of my usage have been without mouse skates.
