Real Life example

Cable mess

Some reviewing sites doesn't even bother to install the products they are reviewing to their cases so hopefully this little Real Life example will be worth something. :) Look familiar? This is how my system used to look a moment ago. Lets see if we can make it look any better.

New connectors and managed wires

This is a power splitter for Cooler Master's Aero 4 Lite that we reviewed earlier. First job was to change the connectors and it took around one minute to do. While the result is nice as it is I decided to wrap the wires together with some spiral wrap.

Video

Does one minute for two connectors sound fast? Well here is a video to prove you that it can be done even faster. Video is available in two formats and to save bandwidth, please, try the .WMV first if you have Windows2K or XP.

Blue Connectors

Orange Connectors

Closeup

Motherboard visible in these images is DFI's LanParty 875. Most of its connectors are UV reactive and they look really nice with these new molex connectors. I first tried the blue ones but because I don't like to mix different colors that much I changed all the connectors to orange. Thanks to those pin extractors the whole process took only a few moments.

And yes, you need to have an UV cold cathode or UV leds inside the case to make the connectors glow. While this may sound pretty obvious to most readers there are still some people who doesn't seem to know this. I used one UV CCFL for these images and as you can see it handles the task pretty well. Brightness of the connectors is good and all the UV reactive components on the motherboard starts to glow.

Conclusion

Xmod UV reactive Molexes & Pin Extractors

PROS
  • Easy to use
  • Most colors are really bright
  • Innovative releasing mechanism
  • Extractors speed up the process a lot

  • CONS
  • Not that many distributors yet
  • If you are planning or have an UV theme in your case lighting, these connectors are a must. They add a small but noticable detail to your case. Combine these with some planned cable management and your case will be noticed for sure.

When I did my Molex Light mod, I had to use a needle and quite a lot of time to extract the pins from the molexes. These new pin Extractors make the job 100 times faster, safer and easier.

While water cooling is gaining more and more popularity, this kind of UV modding products are sure to follow. Today you can byt UV reactive tubes, water dye, fans, cable tiers, motherboards etc. so I believe that we haven't seen the last of this evolution yet. Now Molex connectors, tomorrow who knows what. New and fresh ideas are always welcomed and Xmod might be the company that will bring them to us in the future too.
