I've mentioned the word "homebrew" couple of times now. Homebrew software is something that anyone can develop on their own if one has the proper developement tools. Usually this includes a compatible compiler and needed libraries. On some consoles it is illegal to develop homebrew applications as the needed libraries and SDKs are copyrighted by the manufacturer and are not sold nor are available by other legal means to the general public.
So, you can add a lot more functionality to your NDS by using these homebrew applications. What kind of proggies we are talking about then? Here is one list of some of the best pieces of code that I've found:
