Radeon HD 6870

The HD6870 uses the same core, but this time all of the 1120 unified shaders are in use. The stock speeds are higher, 900 MHz on the GPU and 1050 MHz on the memories. Due to the higher memory clock speed, also the bandwidth is higher - 134,4 GB/s.

All the memory chips are located on the front side of the PCB, hidden under the cooler, so there are no large components on the rear side. The heavy cooler is held in place with 15 screws and at the top of the board there's again just a single CFX-connector.
Memory & GPU

The memory chips on the HD6870 are the same Hynix H5GQ1H24AR-T2C's as on the HD6850. The GPU is made on week 38.
Cooling

The power regulation circuitry of the HD6870 is located in a weird place between the GPU and the connectors. Other than the the odd location, the circuitry is very similar.

Finally we get a look at the cooler, it's very similar with the HD6850's cooler, but this time everything is much beefier. The GPU-cooler has a very thick copper base and three heat pipes. Beside this there's the aluminum heatspreader for the power circuitry and memory chips.
