Trying to break it!

Quick temperature changes are really evil to most electronics, so this is also where we started. We decided to put the XtremKey through the standard Finnish sauna-routine. First warm up on the stove for a good while, then take a quick spin of a couple of hours in the snow, and then jump straight back to the sauna. As seen on the temperature meter readings, the changes were rather brutal, but the memory stick didn't mind.

After the temperature testing it was time to get more physical. To start off we threw the drive down from the third floor balcony. This is quite a bit higher than the 5 m drop resistance promised by LaCie, but even at this height there was no visible damage on the drive.

And finally ran the drive over a couple of times. Granted, it's not a 10-ton truck that Lacie promises the drive to be capable to survive, but I'm pretty sure a normal thumb drive wouldn't be too happy to even take the load of a small hatchback.

After all the punishing we could think of, the XtremKey was still working perfectly. The only visible damage was the snapped cable, which just couldn't take the studded tires scratching the drive.
