ROCCAT PYRA Wired + Wireless

In Use

First impression of the use is how nicely it fits your hand and how the rubber grips give a secure grip
even in the fastest of movements. It also slides very nicely on both the Steelseries 9HD and Qpad XT-R
mousepads we had around for the gaming tests. I couldn't notice any lag whatsoever with the wireless version
and indeed the general opinion seems to be that the 2,4 GHz wireless mice simply don't lag. With the lagging
test out of the way we tested the mouse on a variety of surfaces. This seems like a particularly important
feature for a laptop mouse, and the results didn't turn out quite as nice. The tracking was good on all the
mousepads we had around as well as on canvas and paper. It didn't however work on either varnished or
painted wood.
Also the Roccat software is very easy to use and it takes no time at all to set up the keys to your
liking. I especially liked the Easyshift, after some learning it can really be used to add some extra keys
to the mouse. Overall then the wired Pyra proved to be a great companion to a mobile gamer, but
unfortunately the battery life of the wireless version was a huge letdown. The batteries died after just a
couple of days of random usage. Sure, the recharging cable is well designed and doesn't disturb using the
mouse, but a couple of days of battery life simply is too short.
