Side by side with the Plextor PX-PH160US we reviewed earlier, the TS01 appears to be of exactly the same size. On the plextor the led is located on the top of the drive which I prefer over the Silverstone's way. When the led is located to the top, it's visible from all directions when the drive is located on the table, where as Silverstone has to be pointed away from you in order to see the small led. This is mainly just nit picking as the led after all only shows if you have already unlocked the drive or not.
From straight ahead one can see that the Silverstone enclosure is a bit thinner than the Plextor. A small difference, but everything counts when you're trying to fit the laptop and all the extra peripheral into a small bag.
ASSEMBLY
With the supplied screw driver the enclosure is very easy to take apart. The structure is the same as with virtually all 2,5" enclosures and the aluminum shell is made from one piece. On the lower image one can see the electronics that are attached to one end of the drive. Behind the S-ATA power connector (the one on the right) one can see the coil that's used in reading the information from the RFID-tag.
The HDD we used with the Silverstone is a Samsung HM160HI 160 GB drive. It's the same one found inside the Plextor PX-PH160US, so we already know what to expect from the performance tests. The plastic end with the electronics isn't mounted to the drive in any other way but the S-ATA connectors. This method may seem a bit risky, but the laptop drives have barely weight at all, so no major stress should be caused on the connectors. When the HDD is at this stage, the assembly is simply slidden into place. The other end of the enclosure supports the drive so it doesn't actually touch the aluminum housing.
